things have been crazy busy lately. me and paul moved from adams morgan to a beyootiful town house in cap hill, and the move has pretty much taken up most of my time. tho, a couple of weeks ago, i was able to do something that i’ve always wanted to try out, but never have: underwater photography. despite the craziness, i’m in the process of putting together a music video for my friend’s band, and i was able to film my friend mike swimming underwater for some effects shots for the vid. this turned out to be the most fun i had filmming anything in a very long time. it’s definitely hard to keep the camera steady and hold your breath and not float to the surface all at the same time. but i shot a lot more footage that i expected, and i got some really incredible shots. i have a ton of work to do with the video – a lot of effects shots and all, but i’m excited about putting it together, and i’m sure that it’ll turn out just grand.
now that we’re all settled, there are a ton of things going on with the film. we’ve set up a new company called DICHROIC media-production-releasing, and DVDs and CDs of the film will be released through this new company. we’ve also been approached by an on-line direct download company through New Filmmakers / Anthology Film Archives that we’ll most likely make the film available through that really soon. We also have an upcoming screening at the Takoma Park Film Festival, which will be really cool. One of my classmates from college runs the fest, and she really digs the film and i think it’ll be a lot of fun.
but one of the biggest decisions that i have to make is whether or not i’m planning to have a ‘last hurrah’ screening of the film in DC in october. some of my other filmmaker friends have talked about splitting the cost of renting the theatre, and this screening may in fact turn into it’s own little DIY fest. either way, i think it’ll be a lot of work, but also a lot of fun as well. if i do decide to try to organize this fest, i really need to get on the ball and make it happen soon.
so there are so many different things that i’m working on at the moment, i’m hoping that i haven’t spread myself too thin. tho, i think the important thing is to remember that it’s all fun and worthwhile, and that i should enjoy all my work as much as i can. it’s important to keep a positive attitude toward it all, and make it happen.
